We stitched many quilt tops to honor our country's heros - Community Service Program
The Quilt Guild of Greater Victoria has a community service project each year. This year the Guild made quilts for our wounded warriors and military personnel at the San Antonio Military Medical Center (formerly Brooks Army Medical Center). At a regular meeting of the Guild, the members met and brought machines and fabric, creating a total of 24 quilt tops. The quilts were then machine quilted and handed off to several members who completed the handwork & attached a label. The quilts were made according to the Quilts of Valor guidelines. After the quilts are completed they must be laundered and placed in a case made especially for each quilt. The quilts will be delivered in mid August.
L-R: Mary Jo Poole, Jerry Cappadonna, Rebekah Wilson, Bea Steffek, Rachael Gotcher.
The quilts were delivered today. I took pictures of them moving the quilts from my car to their truck. Rosie Bolenbaucher was my contact person at SAMMC for the quilts. The quilts will be divided between the wounded warriors at SAMMC and the medical staff located in the theater in Afghanistan. Rosie is a nurse who worked over in Iran and Afghanistan and now is here in the states helping to train the nurses for duty over there..
